One of the business team’s key responsibilities includes attaining sponsors to help fund the team. This is achieved through personal connections, presentations and cold calling various companies. There are a variety of different types of sponsorships with different recognition levels. They include monetary and in-kind contributions such as sheet metal, printing, transportation, carpet, workspaces, as well as food.
FIRST Robotics is so much more than just building robots. The business team works to spread the message of FIRST and engage others within STEM on a local and even global level. They arrange various robot demonstrations, workshops and presentations and community festivals, events and at local libraries.
There are many awards associated with the program such as the Chairmans Award, Engineering Inspiration Award, Entrepreneurship Award, Woodie Flowers Award, Dean’s List Award and many others. The business team is responsible for writing and managing all of the awards submissions. This sub team also writes up all of the binders and outreach documentation for competitions and design promotional material such as t-shirts, sweaters, snapbacks and hats.
